how's about we meet up?

Gary & myself have been talking about meeting up and working on some concept art, would anyone here be interested in joining us? How's Tuesday or Friday of next week sound? and then from there we can make it a regular thing.
Here's some Doodles from last night

Now for my crop o sketches, approximately in order of execution, near as I can recollect:

Joker by Ben. To my mind seems reminiscent of the early, "friendlier" Joker, before he was recast as a sociopathic monster.

Cornerface by Elaine. Nice Kirby-esque vibe off this, I feel.

Broody guy by Gary. If you look closely, you'll see him looming in the background of Elaine's sketch, above.

A sketch that may or may not be based on Elaine. If you think that's bad, you should see the ones I did of Andrew and Gary. On second thoughts, maybe you shouldn't.

Some kind of Troll featuring my "default nose" - something I didn't realise I was guilty of till Ben pointed it out!

This is Peter Parker if he had been bitten by a cricket instead of a spider, by Ben. I particularly like the strap-on abdomen. I imagine its sort of like a batman's utility belt. Who knows what delights lie within!
Gary here... here a few sketches from the other night. First up is a warm up pic that is as badly composed as can be... drawing off the page with loads of room behind. Rookie error.
Batman sketch, straight marker work so no hiding the mistakes.
So there was this weird Gerard Depardieu type dude staring at us all night so I just had to draw him... Not really of course... Just a weird sketch out of the ol' imagination.
Ben gave me this excellent brush pen to try out and this is what I did. Again, ink straight on page means all mistakes are forever...
Ben did this brilliant sketch of Spidey in my pad. Loves it! What can I say the boy's talented.
Elaine did this lovely sketch in my pad too. Now this is how to draw a female! Love it!

Indiana Jones

My childhood hero, Indiana Jones. :D For anyone who has seen my hat, this wouldn't be much of a surprise.

For The Honour Of Greyskull!!!

I know I am very early with this but, as I have quite a bit of free time at the moment, I figured I'd start drawing and see what happened. Took a while but I managed to decide on She-Ra as my childhood hero. I've meant to draw her before (countless times) but I've never been happy with the result. Anyway, simply for the fact that when I was little (and blonde haha) and my Dad would be blow-drying my hair, I'd make him send my hair all over the place a la She-Ra when she transforms, she's my childhood hero :)

Edit: Fixed the title 'cause I'm pedantic like that ;P

New Post - Childhood hero

Got a feeling the turtles may make an appearance!
bit behind again I'll have my posts up next week.

Thursday, June 30, 2011

So this is only my second contribution, but already I'm noticing a worrying trend in my posts... They all have the theme of the destruction of mankind! And I thought I was generally a cheery person!

Extinction

The breakthrough of breakthroughs!
A wonderous sight!
Wouldn't you know it?
Michael Crichton was right!

Using advanced genetics
And experimental science,
Mankind had resurrected
Nature's ancient giants.

Caught up in their own genius,
Ploughing ahead 'cause they could.
Not once did they pause
To consider if they should.

But of course! You've guessed it -
Their creations escaped!
The apocalypse is here...
... And it's DINOSAUR SHAPED!

Despite attempted cover-ups,
Panic quickly grew,
As the populous realised
The rumours were true!

Most species were herbivores
Which allowed some relief,
But a DNA mishap
Was to worsen Man's grief...

For vegetation no longer
Sated these beasts,
And they joined their brethren
In human meat feasts!

With so abundant a food source,
These reptiles could thrive
Whilst terrified people
Fought hard to survive.

Cities and villages -
All of them fell,
And the half-eaten corpses
Caused one hell of a smell!

Thankfully on land
The dinosaurs remained,
So this murderous outbreak
Was somewhat contained.

Of course, it was awful!
So tragic and sad!
But it's only one continent,
So it wasn't too bad!

Dinosaur

I took the lazy way out this month and used an image I did a while ago of a plesiosaurus skeleton. Brings me back to my archaeology days :)

Jurassic Wilde

I was going for a dinosaur hunter idea and cast the action gal' du jour Olivia Wilde in the role. Not sure I was very successful resemblance-wise, but it is my first attempt at drawing her.

On a completely unrelated subject, I may be watching 'House' too much haha.

Dinosaurs - Velocirapper

Hey guys it's good to part of Collective Thinking and here's my very first post. My first dinosaur pic ever too I think. Really enjoyed doing this and took a few liberties with the theme, but what the hell. It was only as I was drawing the arms that I realised they looked a little ''Westsiiiide'' and from there put on the cap, chain and thought of a name that would work and tie it all in. I know it probably looks nothing like a real Velociraptor... Anyway all done from head, no reference.
Included a process pic too. Hope you like it. G

Dinosaurs

So I was pretty sly this month, managed to knock out a monthly post with a well over due favour for a friend of mine.  My mate does a lot of racing and he asked me before Christmas would I do some kind of dinosaur design for his racing helmet. So months n months later here it is. Sorry mate, turns out I don't have as much time as I thought I did.  At least u get the rest of the racing season out of it.

His racing helmet is white so I kept the bg white and the rest of his racing gear is red so, red felt like the right colour for the dinosaur.

Above is a test with a font and the bottom is a bigger version of the raptor for the blogs sake.  Nice and early with the monthly post this month so anything else I post will be bonus points!

This is the main graph for the helmet I should get the finished design up after a bit more work with my m8, maybe by the end of the month... I've kept him waiting long enough.

below is iteration1, on the big dinosaur head i painted in a scaly texture just to add a bit o life to it. Obviously its no longer gonna b a white helmet

Heroes of the 21st Century

Yoda force-surfing on R2D2. This is in anticipation of the moment, later this century, when Star Wars becomes public domain and we, the people can "fix" it.

The Original 21st Century Hero

I was going to try something very political for my hero piece but I ran out of time and sold out to doing a quick sketch of Spiderman 2099. The original 21st century hero

21st Century Heroes

Jane Fonda rules - the woman is in her 70's and is still rockin it.

21st century heroes

i feel a bit wrong that others went for actual people and i still go for computer game characters........ oh well

21st Century Heroes

Above is cartoon I saw last month, in and around the time the SEALS got Bin Laden (duh!).  I just thought it was cool, so when anna picked the theme for this month, I thought I would do my own version of the piece. Just got informed that the artist of the original piece is J.D. Crowe.  It's such a powerful piece.

Turned out referencing these two guys was pretty tuff, couldn't find the same Helmet that's in the original one, but while looking I saw that the SEALS also used another hat so I thought I'd use that one (I was also pressed for time).  This is just my interpretation is all.  I put the two towers in the BG cause thats pretty much what I saw when I looked at the original, it's almost like America is complete again... I dunno, The cartoon really worked for me, just hope I did some kind of justice to it.

Artist Rendition of the Mr. Kipling

The ability to consistantly make awesome cakes.
The portrait of the fine man himself. Its the least I could do.

the Caped Crusader

just a loose sketch this time round

Heroes of the 21st Century

'Thanks Tina' by Elaine Snowden
I picked Tina Fey 'cause, not only did her impersonation of Sarah Palin effectively ruin her vice presidential campaign and save the world from THAT horrible prospect, but she also wrote Mean Girls :D

Crazy Hobo

Sorry it's late ( and barely started let alone almost finished), but I only got round to a concept sketch. I was playing with the idea of having one of those kellogg's crunchy nut people who has basically become a crunchy nut junkie.  This is Eric, Eric was kind of a big deal but now he just deals crunchy nut boxes. He sells off what he can to kids and takes their pocket money to buy more of the good stuff. Eric like most crunchy nuts, prefers his cereal straight from the box milk poured right in and like most crunchy nuts Eric has sold the shirt right off his back just to get his hands on some... poor Eric

I'll try n finish a post this month

Crazy Hobo

I get a :( beside my name because Im on a few days off and I dont have time to do it at the moment. I have a sketch done, but I want to colour it! Sorry! :(

Crazy Hobo

Only one of these hobos is actually crazy, but I figure a giant japanese man who can shoot fire out of his hands is probably welcome at most hobo fires.  I also like to think that at some point in his wanderings around america, Ryu must surely have encountered the littlest hobo.

SUGGESTION:  can we edit the settings of the blog to show more posts on the front page?  I think you can have up to 500. What say you, brothers and sisters?

Plants Take Over

Woohoo got the post done and its on time!

I didn't get it finished how I had planned! Oh well!!

Plants Take Over

So I've been messing around with creating flash games this month so I hooked the two subjects up. Its limited and from tutorials by http://www.kongregate.com/ But was a fun learning curve.

Exploding Graphics and UI are from Kongregate as well, I was just running out of editing time.

Plants Take Over

stuck this month, managed to this half finished, I will finish it and post up the final draft over the next week or two

Plants are dangerous

I only realised today that it was the end of the month so this is my attempt at the monthly post. Its not at all what I had been thinking of doing but as soon as I started drawing, Mario came to mind and I just went with it :)

Plants Take Over

I knew that if I attempted to put up a drawing or painting I'd never finish it. I don't have a great track record when it comes to completing the hundreds of creative projects I start. So I was told I could do a poem instead. Here goes.....

Plants Take Over

A vine was spreading
across the land,
Growing rapidly
out of hand.

Unfamiliar,
its genus unknown.
No knowledge about
from whence it had grown.

When first it appeared,
its flowers looked pretty -
Mother Nature's brightening
of Man's dingy city.

But soon there was reason
to raise the alarm,
This strange new plant
was causing some harm.

Its speed of growth
meant destruction was quick -
Streets and buildings covered
under greenery so thick.

Its tendrils expanded,
electricity went down
as the power lines choked,
bringing chaos to town.

But further it crept,
through windows and doors,
While its beautiful flowers
released poisonous spores.

Soon the screams went quiet
and the panic died down,
As the plant quashed humanity
and conquered the town.

March Theme

Hi All,

I'm going to be late with my February post but just to get the ball rolling I thought it would be a cool theme to do "Plants taking over!".
